Our German partner STARKMACHER: Stimulating youth through experiential, ecological and entrepreneurial learning!

Since 2010, Starkmacher (est. 2006) started to invest more into projects in the fields of sustainability and environmental education. This direction has been promoted because of the sector related skills of two employees and the desire to make a change in society as far as these issues are concerned. The first project implemented was a Grundtvig Learning Partnership: Eco Navigation, a project with European partners on the trail of sustainability and sustainable lifestyles. Other activities comprise workshops in adult education on themes like sustainability or also more specific topics such as agriculture, permaculture and urban farming. In the last 2 years, the issue was combined with the question on how to enhance employability of disadvantaged youth and ecological themes were linked with employment projects.

Most of the projects are international in order to boost intercultural and global learning at the same time. The most current projects in the field of youth employbility, sustainability and social inclusion are:

MADIE:
MADIE means  „Diversified Agriculture as motor for innovation in rural areas”, and came out on top against other big national business competitors in a number of projects and gained supplements for promotion. In this initiative, consultants for cooperatives of different European countries are trained.
Their task is to help people who live and work in rural areas provide better self-management and develop future prospects.

RURAL ACADEMY:
The rural academy includes farmers, consultants, trainers from different countries brought together by the European Erasmus + MADIE project. The program shares a vision of ecological agriculture that aims to enrich the ecosystems we care for and offers a platform for international cooperation and networking. RuralAcademy promotes the principles of ecological agriculture by supporting increased land fertility and biodiversity, the use of renewable energies, the development of cooperation projects and multifunctional programs and much more.

PRESET:
The project “Preset“ strives for long-term future prospects of youth: It is about discovering and reinforcing the potential that especially lies in the field of ecology and development of sustainable projects. Young people shall be empowered and promoted so they are able to build up an independent economical future.

STARTUPCYCLING:
The project aims to develop innovative ways to promote waste reduction, upcycling and youth employability. We want to initiate a global exchange of resources to create young start-ups with sustainable upcycling creations. StartUpcycling was set up to promote the exchange of good practices in the fields of youth unemployment and upcycling. The partner organizations from seven different countries worldwide provide youngsters with examples and a review of upcycling measures, as well as establishing connections with social businesses, international contacts in the field, and guidance to set up a new green business.

GREENUP BRIDGES:
This project is connected with a German-Turkish exchange. The project aims at offering the participants a sustainable and healthy perspective of the future and to encourage them to believe in their abilities and to take initiative themselves. The young adults get to know people with similar interests and from another culture and have the opportunity to make cross-border friendships. They also acquire further skills and competences in general, that can help them with their professional career. The group met in 2017 in order to develop perspectives together for entrepreneurial action in the area of sustainability. They are important, not only because of recent political events and, unfortunately, still existing prejudices and discrimination, but rather to strengthen the sense of cohesion between members of both peoples.
